Description
Aegle marmelos, known as Indian Bael or Golden Apple, is a member of Rutaceae or citrus family. The traditional medicine system of Ayurveda in India routinely uses every part of A. marmelos as a therapy for medical conditions. A. maremelos leaves are used to treat jaundice and help in wound-healing when applied as a paste on a wound surface. The leaf extract of A. marmelos is used as a medication against a number of chronic diseases such as diabetes, pancreatic cancer, and arthritis. All of these medicinal properties of A. marmelos leaves are attributed to various phytochemicals present in the leaves such as aeglin, rutin, γ-sitosterole, β-sitosterol, eugenol, marmesinin, glycoside, skimmianine, etc.
