Description
Callerya speciosa (Champ. ex Benth.) Schot, a perennial shrub plant in the Fabaceae family, is widely cultivated in South China and commonly used for medicine. The tuberous root is the medicinal organ of C. speciosa, which originates from the expansion of fibrous roots. Isoflavonoids as the main medicinal compounds have been produced in the tuberous roots of C. speciosa, such as the index compounds maackiain and formononetin, which have made considerable contributions to immunity enhancement, hepatoprotection, arresting cough, and expectorant and anti-asthmatic effects.
