Halenia elliptica D. Don, a biennial herb in the Gentianaceae family, is a popular Chinese medicinal herb that is widely used to treat jaundice disease and virus hepatitis. This species is mainly distributed at elevations ranging from 700 to 4000 m in Yunnan, Sichuan, Qinghai, and Tibet.
